The difference between civil and modular kitchen is civil means the basic structure of a kitchen with no more functionality or hard to use. Whether modular kitchen means it is totally customized with the customer's requirement and with more functions and easy to handle and looks fully stylish.
1. Surface top: If the Surface top, usually granite, is installed first, then the process to furnish such a kitchen is termed as Civil Kitchen. In such cases, since the gradient of the granite slab is usually not symmetric, the cabinets and shutters may not be the same size, and need some run time customization. Whereas in a ‘modular' kitchen concept, the cabinets are installed first, and then the surface top is installed over the base cabinets.
2. Carpenter v/s machine-made: In a civil kitchen, the manual work of the carpenter is required more as compared to complete machine-made cabinets and shutters in a modular kitchen concept.
3. Surface top thickness: Since the slab is cast first on a cemented structure in a civil kitchen, the thickness of the slab is usually 100 mm to 150 mm. This thickness comes down to 20 mm to 40 mm in the case of modular concepts.
4. Accessories: Since the space underneath the slab in a civil kitchen may not be the requisite 800 mm, standard brand accessories may not fit in readily in civil kitchens.
